Understanding Grades

Japan Auction Grade System

Every car at Japanese auctions is independently inspected and graded. Grades reflect exterior condition, interior condition, and mechanical status. Buying by grade protects you from surprises.

5
Excellent
No scratches, dents, or defects. Virtually brand new condition. Rare to find — highly sought after.
4.5
Near Excellent
1–2 very minor marks only visible up close. Interior pristine. Excellent mechanical condition.
4
Very Good
Small superficial scratches and minor marks. Clean interior. No accident history. Great daily driver.
3.5
Good
Normal wear for age. May have minor dents or scratches. Still in good mechanical condition.
3
Average
Visible wear, multiple light scratches, minor rust possible. Good value for budget buyers.
R
Repaired
Has had past accident or repair history. Disclosed on auction sheet. Budget pricing — sold transparently.
Simple Process

How Buying from Auction Works

You don't need to be in Japan. We handle everything — from the auction bid to the port in your country.

Tell us what you want
Send us your requirements — make, model, year, grade, budget, and color. We'll search all major auctions for matching cars this week.
Review auction sheet
We send you the full Japanese auction inspection sheet with detailed condition map, grades, mileage, and all notes from the inspector.
Confirm your bid price
You approve the maximum bid price. Our experienced buyers bid on your behalf on auction day — always aiming for the best value.
Win & pay invoice
If we win the car, you receive a full invoice: auction price + Japan fees + shipping. No hidden costs. We accept bank transfer, Wise, or crypto.
Vehicle inspection
Before shipping, we photograph the car from all angles and confirm it matches the auction sheet. You approve photos before we load it.
Ship to your country
Your car is loaded at Nagoya, Osaka, or Yokohama port. Full shipping documents, Bill of Lading, and export certificate provided for customs clearance.

Do I need to be in Japan to bid at auction?
No. You never need to visit Japan. We are licensed members of all major Japanese auction houses. You simply tell us what car you want, approve the auction sheet and your maximum bid price, and we bid on your behalf on auction day. Most customers complete the entire process from email and WhatsApp.
What does the auction grade actually mean for the car I receive?
The auction grade reflects the exterior, interior, and mechanical condition at the time of the auction inspection. Grade 4 and above vehicles typically arrive in excellent condition with only very minor marks. We strongly recommend Grade 3.5 or higher for export. All auction sheets are written in Japanese by certified inspectors, and we translate and explain every mark to you in English before bidding.
What is included in the total price you quote me?
Our quote always includes: auction purchase price, auction house fees (recycling fee, yard charge), our agent commission, Japan transport to port, export customs clearance, vehicle inspection and photography, Bill of Lading fee, and ocean freight to your nearest port. We will not add unexpected charges after you confirm. Import duties and local taxes at your destination are the buyer's responsibility, and we'll guide you on what to expect.
How long does the whole process take from bid to delivery?
Timeline varies by destination. After winning the auction, we typically prepare and load the vehicle within 2–3 weeks. Ocean shipping takes 2–6 weeks depending on your port. Total door-to-port time is usually 5–10 weeks. We provide vessel tracking details so you always know where your car is. Countries with complicated customs (e.g. some African and South American markets) may require a few additional days at the port.
What if I lose the auction bid?
Losing a bid is completely normal and there is no charge. Japan's auctions run every week, so we simply continue searching for your ideal car at the next session. Most customers find their car within 2–4 weeks. If we feel the bidding is going too high for the vehicle's value, our experienced buyers will stop and wait for a better opportunity. We never overbid just to win.
Can you source right-hand drive and left-hand drive cars?
Almost all Japanese domestic vehicles are right-hand drive (RHD). Japan also auctions imported European and US vehicles which are left-hand drive (LHD). We can source both. If your country requires LHD, we'll specifically search auction lots with LHD imported cars, or alternatively source from our new car dealership stock.
